Sawdust, Sneezes, & Spackle

I know you, our dedicated blog reader, are disappointed that we haven’t been posting regularly. Well, in all honesty, we’re probably going to continue that trend. We’ll try harder, though. I promise. Life hasn’t been too exciting lately. We’ve been working on the brewpub pretty much all day, every day. Recent projects include deconstructing, cutting, and sanding about 3 million pallets; sneezing and wheezing as sawdust takes over our space; attempting to clean bathrooms with no running water; hauling buckets of water from home; caulking, spackling, and painting...

RBC First Beer Tasting

During the Rincón Plaza Art Walk this past Thursday, Rincón Beer Company made its debut! Although last-minute, the event went well. Sage had two beers ready for sampling: Sandy Blond Ale and Overhead IPA. We passed out free samples of each, along with comment cards for people to rate the flavor, mouthfeel, and general taste of the beer. We were excited to get some feedback on our product, albeit a bit nervous to put it out there in the world! Once we learned about the Art Walk, Sage came up with the idea to do a beer tasting there. We talked to our friend Anthony, who owns an art...

Back to Babysitting: My New Business Venture

After a brief stint in the world of coffee and type-A personalities, I decided to get back to doing what I love: working with children! Those that know me best know that I love kids and worked as a preschool teacher for years. In fact, I first began working with children when I was barely a teen: I volunteered in preschools during the summers when I was age 13, 14, and 15. A few years later, I began working at The New School, a non-profit preschool and private school, and also earned my Child Development Associate (CDA). My favorite age is three- and four-year-olds; they’re super...

New Updates

I’ve fallen behind on my blogging, as my husband reminds me daily, so this is me trying to get back in the swing of things with a general update. We got a couch about three weeks ago. It’s actually a loveseat. Have I mentioned how terrible the furniture selection is here? It’s really awful– high prices for poor quality. We’re talking $700 for a couch stuffed with cheapo egg-crate foam. And the styles are terrible! Puerto Rico has some weird fascination with white- and cream-colored laminated neo-Waterfall bedroom suites and bright white pleather couches. In light...

Random Ramblings and Adventures With Laundry

Things are rolling right along. I’ve been learning about smoothies and coffee at my new job at Banana Dang, taking Sage to get rabies shots, and of course spending time at the beach! We still need to buy a couch and some shelving, but things are coming together. Sage’s new surfboard should arrive on Thursday, and he can’t wait to (attempt to) catch some waves. I’m excited to be heading to Arkansas for my best friend’s wedding in about 10 days. I’ll get ample girl time and Mexican food while Sage and the puppies keep things under control here in PR. I had an...
